Last week we described the difference between collectible, vintage and antique. Today we ask specifically about rugs and what collectors of rugs look for.
It is impossible to know exactly what collectors of rugs find valuable. Some look for aesthetic value whereas others look for culturally authentic pieces, which are those that were made for local use rather than for commercial export. Rugs that were made for local use that also predate the 1800s are currently in high demand. Additionally, age and how rare a rug is are factors that are considered, especially in combination with the rug’s original use. However, it is important to keep in mind that the cost will always be determined by the demand.
